About

Compassionate, Mindful, Effective Therapy

BIO Brit Creelman, PhD is a seasoned therapist who has been serving individuals, couples, families and groups for over 20 years. Dr. Creelman's passion for authentic relating, and healing the effects of depression and trauma, has inspired a career that includes providing community-based recovery alternatives to psychiatric hospitalization, research on the relationship between trauma and substance use, peace and justice activism in war zones, and 10 years’ service as training director in a program for youth survivors of complex trauma. Dr. Creelman's practice is increasingly anchored in IFS (Internal Family Systems). He is Level 2 trained and enjoys assisting with IFS Institute trainings. In addition to maintaining a private practice in Evanston IL, Dr. Creelman is a clinician in FDA-approved clinical trials using psychedelics to address mental health challenges. He has served as Lead Session Facilitator for a study using psilocybin for depression, and Lead Dosing Monitor on an LSD study for anxiety. Exciting results from the PSIL201/Usona depression study have been published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA, Aug, 2023). Dr. Creelman is currently involved with an expanded Phase 3 Usona study. PERSONAL STATEMENT My approach to therapy is to foster a collaborative, supportive relationship, where problems can be experienced in a new way - with more curiosity and self-compassion, and less judgement. To that end I offer heart-centered exploration and problem solving, along with an invitation to deepen day-to-day practices that support health and spiritual well being (such as meditation, breathwork, yoga, and being in nature). I am comfortable doing somatically anchored "parts work." Clients come to see me to address a variety of issues, including depression, the effects of trauma, relationship or family difficulties, creative blocks, concerns about substance use, and overwhelm related to political polarization and global crisis. I enjoy serving academics, creatives, the LBGTQ community, professionals who are considering career changes, and those who feel limited by status quo. Many clients are coming my way to explore and integrate learnings from psychedelic experience, to consult about risks and benefits, and learn about breathwork. Increasingly, my practice includes providing therapy and consultation to fellow therapists. All have unique circumstances and paths for moving forward, but for almost everyone the healing process involves healthy daily routines, and being more connected to self and others. It is an honor to hold space where people can process difficult experiences, explore and release limiting beliefs, and move toward a more open way of being in self and connecting with others. If you want to get more of a sense of what working with me would be like feel free to schedule a consultation so we can talk about what's going on and how I might be of service. “The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.” — Carl Rogers
